DesignPlusLight were involved in one of the latest residential developments in the heart of Soho. Built in 1939, the building once housed London’s premier school of art and design and Foyles Bookstore.

During the day, the penthouse is flooded with natural light. At night the pitched ceilings are emphasised with concealed cove lighting. This provides a soft reflected light and lifts the impression of the space. A sense of intimacy is created at the seating area by focusing downlights onto the timber marquetry feature wall. Harsh glare is cleverly avoided by concealing the light fittings within the architectural detail.

The linear lighting effect is continued into the open plan kitchen space with washes of light onto the cabinets. Lines of light are detailed seamlessly into the wall and across the ceiling. This enhances the architectural structure and defines the kitchen and open plan living space.

A careful mix of contemporary and traditional lighting solutions makes for a unique domestic interior.
